Richmond Folk Festival – 2012

Better than Christmas. The Richmond Folk Festival.

We had a great time at the folk festival this year. Volunteering as “artist buddies,” we spent the weekend doing our best to make sure Rahim Alhaj and Issa Malluf (above) had everything they needed while we helped arrange transportation for them to and from their shows. They were so nice and such professionals, though, that our job was really easy. Here’s a video clip of one of Rahim’s songs from their last set of the weekend:

Being an “artist buddy” means that you might miss a lot of performances at the festival, but there are many hidden benefits, like getting to know the artists and getting to hang out backstage. So, as a photographer, I may have missed some stuff, but I got some unique views behind the scenes.

Nice – nice – nice. That back stage access really paid off. You beat me to the punch on that multiple dancer shot. I tried it on some dancer shots I had but it didn’t work.

Thanks! Most of those photos took about 2-3 hours of work in Photoshop each, but I must’ve worked on the multiple dancer for at least 5 hours.

  2. The first 13 seconds of my film is oil painting that took 12 hours to process, won’t be using again but worked well here.

Yes! The Folk Festival is an amazing event. Far above anything Richmond has ever done in the past. Our backstage volunteering allowed for some great up close photos and unique views.
