Last night, after playing a gig with the Mag Bats at Tricycle Gardens, and, consequently, after consuming a few beers, then, to soak up the beer, devouring some fried oysters at Legend Brewing Company followed by some late night chocolate cake at home, I fell into the deep, immediate drinker’s sleep, which is always followed by the abrupt awakening at 3 AM, and then, these days, by the downing of a half tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda in a glass of water and a couple of hours of stark consciousness.
So it happened that I was awake last night at 3:30 AM exploring new filters in Photoshop when I finally found the “oil paint” filter that is, apparently, new to Photoshop CS6. This filter produces an effect that is downright sumptuous to my eyes, and it could be trouble! With my recent image series, I have always tried to walk a fine line between realism and pure fantasy. This filter may take me too far into the realm of pure fantasy. …But it is really alluring. Is this valid new territory, or the sirens on the rocks? Ah, the tribulations of aesthetic decision making! Drat those aesthetic decisions!
