More from the creek bottom

Years ago, at a meeting of my fishing club over a few beers, an old friend was describing a problem he was having with his neighbor’s pit bull, who was coming into his yard and killing his chickens. My friend famously explained that he warned his neighbor that if it ever happened again “Mr. Pit Bull g’one be belly up in the creek bottom.” Ever since that night, among my friends in the fishing club, “belly up in the creek bottom” is a phrase used whenever describing dire circumstances of any kind.
